The western district of Sikkim is highly popular with trekkers since it has regions with fairly impressive altitudes that are ideal for exploring and watching the Himalayas from close vicinity. The most famous and scenic treks, that explore numerous valleys, streams, trails, and beautiful glaciers are the Barsey Trek, Goecha La Trek, Kasturi Trek, Kanchenjunga National Park Trek & the famous Dzongri Trek. You can reach as high as 4200 meters above sea level through some of the routes. The district is the second largest one in Sikkim, expanding up to 1,166 square kilometers.
Apart from a glittering collection of mountains, West Sikkim is also extremely ecologically rich. A part of the Kanchenjunga National Park sits here, sheltering the elusive red panda, which is the state animal. Owing to the elevation of the region, the district enjoys a pleasantly temperate type of climate, which facilitates ample growth of rhododendrons, which bloom beautifully during spring.
Barsey also commonly spelled as Varsey is one of the most colorful and best trekking routes in Sikkim. Basery Rhododendron Sanctuary is nestled between the Kanchendzonga Biosphere Reserve on its north and the Singalila National Park on its south. It is a protected area that stretches over an area on the Singalila range of the eastern Himalayan in West Sikkim. In spring this place is covered with a blanket of colorful flowers you can witness clear skies, a panoramic view of snow-covered Mount Kanchenjunga, and pleasant weather.
Sikkim Kanchenjunga Goecha La Trek is one of the most offbeat destinations in India. This trek route takes you at an altitude of 4600 ft above sea level which offers you a stunning view of the world's third largest mountain Mt Kanchenjunga this place is nestled in the Kanchendzonga National Park Goecha la also provide you with other 14 other summit view form here. The peak is of greater importance to Buddhists and the Lepcha tribes. The park is named after the world's third highest peak Mt Kanchenjunga, Kanchenjunga National Park which was recently included in UNESCO World Heritage sites it is the rare high-altitude National Park and one of the gems of Sikkim State. It is lactated at the elevation of 8586 meters it lies partly in Nepal and partly in Sikkim. This place is a paradise for trekkers with diverse landscapes and breathtaking views.

Pemayangtse means the "Sublime Lotus". This three-story monastery is home to some priceless Buddhist relics like original manuscripts, cookeries, and more. The monastery is drenched in traditional colors and oriental architecture, which lends a deeply spiritual feel to the atmosphere, and is a must-visit.
This holy lake is known to be wish-fulfilling and is visited by couples who arrive to receive fertility blessings from the presiding deity. The lake is a protected area, and the incoming tourists are not allowed to litter or bathe in the lake. The surrounding birds never let a stray leaf float on the surface of the water. They pick up the litter themselves.
You will discover the remnants of what was the capital city of monarchial Sikkim under the rule of the Chogyals. Rabdentse was the capital city that was destroyed by the invading Gurkha soldiers in the 17th century. The archaeological remains are interesting to explore and are maintained in excellent condition.

On account of its favorable altitude, Pelling offers an extremely panoramic view of Mount Kanchenjunga. It is one of the most scenic off-beat locations to explore in the entirety of Sikkim.
